Applies to All AGL Events, Programs, and Training Activities
This Waiver and Release of Liability (“Agreement”) is entered into by and between the competitor (“Participant”) and American Grappling League LLC (“AGL,” “we,” or “our”). By registering for, attending, or participating in any AGL tournament, Superfight, training event, or affiliate program, the Participant affirms that they have read, understood, and voluntarily agree to all terms outlined below.
1. Acknowledgment of Risk
Participant acknowledges and agrees that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), submission grappling, and related martial arts involve serious physical activity and inherently dangerous techniques. These activities involve the risk of severe injury, including but not limited to:
– Joint and ligament damage
– Choking or loss of consciousness
– Broken bones
– Cuts, abrasions, and bruises
– Concussions or head trauma
– Long-term physical complications or permanent disability
– In rare cases, death
Participant understands that these risks cannot be eliminated, even with properly trained referees, rule enforcement, or safety protocols. Participant accepts these risks as a condition of participation.
2. Physical Condition and Medical Clearance
Participant certifies that they are physically fit, have no known medical conditions that would increase their risk during strenuous athletic activity, and have not been advised otherwise by a qualified medical professional. Participant agrees that it is their sole responsibility to monitor their own condition before and during competition or training.
3. Voluntary Participation
Participant affirms that their decision to register and participate in any AGL event is entirely voluntary. They understand the nature of the activity, the rules of competition, and the potential consequences of injury or disqualification. Participant assumes full responsibility for their actions and decisions on or off the mat.
4. Waiver and Release of Claims
Participant releases, waives, discharges, and agrees to hold harmless American Grappling League LLC, its owners, officers, directors, agents, volunteers, sponsors, venue operators, affiliated gyms, employees, staff, referees, media teams, and event partners from any and all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages, whether known or unknown, arising out of or related to participation in any AGL event.
This release includes—but is not limited to—injuries caused by:
– Accidental or intentional contact
– Equipment malfunction or venue conditions
– Negligence on the part of AGL or any of its affiliates
– Other participants’ actions
This waiver applies regardless of the cause and extends to any and all claims in tort, contract, or law.
5. Media Release and Right to Use Image
Participant grants AGL the right to record, photograph, livestream, or otherwise capture their participation in any AGL-sanctioned activity. Participant authorizes AGL to use their name, image, likeness, video footage, and recorded voice in promotional materials, marketing campaigns, event coverage, media publications, and social media content, in perpetuity and without compensation.
If a Participant does not wish to be filmed or photographed, they must notify AGL in writing prior to the event. AGL will make reasonable efforts but cannot guarantee exclusion from all media coverage.
6. Code of Conduct and Disqualification
Participant agrees to follow all official AGL rules, policies, and conduct standards. AGL reserves the right to remove, disqualify, or ban any participant who engages in unsportsmanlike behavior, violates safety rules, acts violently, or creates an unsafe or hostile environment.
Disqualification does not entitle Participant to any refund or compensation.
7. Refund and Transfer Policy
All registration payments are non-refundable unless stated otherwise by AGL. Participant understands that they are not entitled to a refund due to injury, disqualification, or voluntary withdrawal. Transfers or credits may be issued at the discretion of AGL upon written request.
8. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes arising from this waiver or AGL activities shall be resolved by binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. Participant agrees to waive any right to trial by jury or class action claims.
9. Certification of Agreement
By registering for or participating in any AGL event, Participant certifies that they have read this Waiver and Release in full, understand its contents, and agree to be bound by its terms. This waiver shall remain in effect for all future AGL events unless revoked in writing by AGL.
